Germany manager Joachim Low has included the surprise selections of Dennis Aogo and Holger Badstuber in his provisional squad for this summer's World Cup.

Hamburg defender Aogo and Bayern Munich youngster Badstuber were named in the 27-man line-up when it was announced on Thursday.

Low also selected Bayern Munich veteran Hans-Jorg Butt among the three goalkeepers who are all vying to become the new No.1 after Rene Adler had to pull out due to injury.

Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack was an obvious inclusion, while defender Jerome Boateng, who is reportedly set to sign for Manchester City, also featured.

World Cup specialist Miroslav Klose was among the six strikers selected by Low ahead of the finals, where Germany will compete in Group D alongside Australia, Serbia and Ghana.

Midfielders: Michael Ballack, Sami Khedira, Piotr Trochowski, Marko Marin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Christian Trasch, Mesut Ozil, Toni Kroos.

Forwards: Lukas Podolski, Miroslav Klose, Stefan Kiessling, Cacau, Thomas Muller, Mario Gomez

You can never write a German team off when it come to the major finals. At worst they will make the quarters.
